Only a Few Seats Left for Family First ®: Breakfast with Coach Tony Dungy on August 5
Tony Dungy will be speaking at Wheaton Academy on Thursday, August 5. Because Tony is a personal friend of one of our coaches and is coming to Chicago to speak at the Willow Creek Leadership Summit, he was willing to speak at our school pro bono. Tony is the No. 1 New York Times bestselling author of Quiet Strength and Uncommon. His newest book, The Mentor Leader, releases August 3. He led the Indianapolis Colts to a Super Bowl victory in February 2007, the first such win for an African American coach. The same year he was recognized as one of the 100 Most Influential People in the World by Time magazine. Dungy has been involved in a variety of charitable organizations, including Family First. He retired from coaching in 2008 and now serves as an analyst for NBC's Football Night in America. Tony and his wife, Lauren, are also the proud parents of seven children. Tony will be speaking about mentoring and leadership within the family and will share some of his experiences and wisdom in parenting. The event will include a continental breakfast and will begin at 7:30 a.m. and conclude at 9:00 a.m. in the Wheaton Academy Warrior Dome. Registration is available online and the cost is $15 for adults and $10 for children. Please remember there is limited seating and spaces are filling up quickly for this exciting event. Because of his strong support of Family First's All Pro Dad ® and iMom ®, Tony strongly encourages all adults who are interested in attending the event to bring a student, grandchild, or mentee. Click here to register. Contact Ryan Hall via email or 630-562-7565 with registration questions.

Don’t Forget Your Gift to Transforming Every Student: The Campaign for Wheaton Academy
As you know from our May mailing, we have raised nearly $11.6 million dollars in the past three years for Transforming Every Student: The Campaign for Wheaton Academy. We are praying that the final $5400,000 will come in the form of gifts and pledges before next Saturday, July 31. We are hoping ALL our school families will participate in this historic effort. Remember, because this final piece helps provide funds for the endowment to support WA teachers, your gift can be made in honor of a WA teacher, past or present. To make an online gift, click here or simply send a check or pledged amount to WA before July 31. Questions? Contact Nikki Daniels via email or 630-562-7580. Thank you in advance for your support!
Informational Meeting for Trap Team at Wheaton Academy - TONIGHT
There is an attempt to develop support for an IHSA State Trapshooting championship much like the Bass Fishing Championship held last spring. IHSA Emerging Sports Programs told Bill Hardt (the one leading this initiative, also AIM Coach/SCSC) that we need 75 schools to offer trap shooting as either a regular sport or as a “club” sport. This opportunity extends to all WA students in grades 9-12 girls, and boys. This league will begin on August 17, 2010. The proposed league will be shot at the St. Charles Sportsmen’s Club on Tuesdays from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. for ten weeks. One team will consist of five students and each school may have multiple teams. Students must have an FOID card (F irearm Owner’s IDentification), as well as one or both of their parents. The FOID card can take up to 4-6 weeks to receive in the mail so students will need to order these as soon as possible. Informational meetings will be held TONIGHT (Friday, July 23) at 7:00 p.m. in Room 112. Please download the attached document for more information. Please contact Ken Ellis at 630-690-3853 with any questions.

Attention Moms – Hostess Needed this Fall!
Wheaton Academy is looking to hold another round of MOMentum Fall Fellowships for WA moms this fall. These are purely social, informal gatherings designed to build community and connection among our moms. We are looking to hold events in different regions to afford maximum convenience and are still seeking a hostess north of WA (Bartlett area) willing to open their home for either a 9-11 a.m. brunch or an 11 a.m.–1 p.m. lunch for 10-20 moms. We already have a team of “volunteer assistants” waiting to help hostesses with planning, food, set-up, etc. If you are interested in hosting, helping, or would simply like more information, contact Nikki Daniels via email or 630/562-7580 before August 1.
Attention Incoming Freshmen and Transfers
Please save the date of Tuesday, August 24 for New Student Orientation. Orientation is required for all students entering WA this August. Incoming students will walk through their class schedules, receive instruction about WA policies, gain computer access, and get to know each other better through interactive activities. There will be separate programs for incoming freshmen and for transfers. Orientation is a great way for new students to gain confidence and be prepared for a great start to a new school year! Freshmen Orientation will last from lunch time into the evening and Transfer Orientation will be in the evening. More details to follow. Please contact Rachel Swanson in Admissions with questions or concerns.
Scholastic Bowl Team Opportunity for Freshmen
Wheaton Academy’s Scholastic Bowl Team competes in the Metro-Suburban Conference, the IHSA state series, and several Saturday tournaments throughout the year. Incoming freshmen who thrive on competition, desire to be part of a team, and love reading and learning in one of three main subject areas (math/science, literature/fine arts, or social studies) would find this Jeopardy-like team a great start to their high school experience. Practices take place one morning a week (day depending on subject area choice) from 7:00-7:45 a.m. starting the second week of school. Afternoon practices take place on Tuesdays for all players not participating in fall athletics. Competitions are typically scheduled for Tuesday late-afternoons/early-evenings from November through February, and Saturday tournaments occur once per month during the late fall and winter. A kick-off lunch and practice for all freshmen is scheduled for Tuesday, August 24 from 12:00-2:00 p.m. To secure a team spot, or for further details, email Coach Joe Kulesza.
